Owls land IWLCA academic awards

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) released today its annual list of Academic Honor Roll members, as well as its list of teams that were named Academic Honor Squads. The Kenyon College Owls not only earned the team award, but also had six student-athletes collect individual accolades.

The IWLCA named 295 women’s lacrosse programs, across all NCAA and NAIA divisions, as Academic Honor Squads. The honor was bestowed on teams that possessed a combined grade point average of 3.20 or better for the 2021-22 academic year. The Owls checked in with a team grade point average of 3.48 to secure their ninth straight award and their 11th award in the past dozen seasons.

The six Kenyon student-athletes who earned spots on the Academic Honor Roll were senior Jayne Gelman along with juniors Tatumn Eccleston, Emma Hutchison, Julia Losey, Ella Murphy and Caroline O’Neil. Gelman is now a two-time winner of the award, while the rest of the Kenyon recipients were first-time honorees.

With six team members earning individual honors for the 2022 season, the Kenyon women established a new program standard, which was previously set at five honorees in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

To be eligible for the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes had to be a junior, senior, or graduate student and had to possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50.

In addition to success in their studies, the Owls finished off a 2022 campaign that included a new program mark for wins with a 16-2 record, as well as North Coast Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles and a third-round appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
