Jackets Daughriety dominates in win over Logan

2017 was the last time the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets baseball team won a tournament game. It saw upsets the previous three years but Wednesday Night the Jackets would not let the Logan Chieftains rain on their parade. The Jackets got a complete game gem from Konnor Daughriety and a hot start to beat the Chieftains 7-0 and pick up their 20th win of the season.

In the first the Chieftains got a two out single but Leeland Everett was erased on a pick off. In the bottom of the frame the Jackets offense got to work. Zac Clow grounded out to start the inning but Daughriety doubled and Ezra Kurek singled before Kayden Packard hit a two run single to get the Jackets on the board. Jonny Askew followed in up with an RBI single against a drawn in infield to give Mount Vernon a 3-0 lead.

In the second the Chieftains went 1-2-3 including a pair of strikeouts. the Jackets also went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the frame.

In the third Daughriety continued to dominate getting a pair of groundouts and a pop out to first to retire Logan. The Jackets got a two out baserunner in the bottom of the inning but could not score.

In the fourth the Chieftains got a lead off single from Chris Gompf but Daughriety was able to get out of the inning unscathed. The Jackets added on in the fourth. After Isiah Columber grounded out to short Caden Theibert smacked a double into left center field. He got to on a passed ball and scored on a ground out to short by Jagger Dohn to make it 4-0.

In the fifth the Chieftains got a runner to third but Daughriety struck out Justin Clement to end the threat. In the bottom of the inning the Jackets had the top of their order up. Both Clow and Daughriety reached on an error by the third baseman before a sac bunt and a line out. With two out Jonny Askew came to the plate a roped a two run triple into right field to up the lead to 6-0.

Daughriety breezed through the 6th and 7th including 4 strikeouts to hold the Chieftains scoreless. The Jackets added a run on an RBI single by pinch hitter Nolan Hershberger in the 6th to make it 7-0.

The Jackets will host Olentangy Liberty in a District Semi next Tuesday at home
