CoSIDA voters tab Albrecht an Academic All-American

GAMBIER, Ohio — After being named an Academic All-District honoree last month, Kenyon College junior Drew Albrecht advanced to the national ballot and Tuesday was named a member of the NCAA Division III Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Team, as voted on by member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A diver on the Owls swimming and diving team, Albrecht was one of just 45 NCAA Division III student-athletes recognized by CoSIDA. With those honorees split into three teams, Albrecht, who possesses a near-perfect grade-point average in his molecular biology studies at Kenyon, earned a spot among the second-team selections.

Albrecht becomes the 19th member of the Kenyon swimming and diving program to earn the prestigious award. He’s also the first since Trevor Manz in 2017.

This past season, Albrecht, a native of Aurora, Ohio, placed second on the one-meter board at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship. During the same meet, he placed third on the three-meter board. From there, he moved on to the NCAA Division III Regional Championship and qualified for his first-ever appearance in the NCAA Championship after logging an eighth-place finish in three-meter competition and a 15th-place finish in one-meter competition.

When Albrecht and the Kenyon team moved on to nationals, they recorded a fifth-place team finish in the final standings. In the diving well, Albrecht garnered points for the Owls by earning a 10th-place finish on the three-meter board and a 15th-place finish on the one-meter. Both those performances were also worthy of College Swimming Coaches Association of America All-America certificates.

The Academic All-America Men’s At-Large team consisted of student-athletes who participated in the sports of golf, hockey, lacrosse, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo, and/or wrestling. In order to be eligible for consideration, a nominee had to have been named a first-team Academic All-District winner, which requires a student-athlete to be at least of sophomore standing and to possess at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
