Centerburg Girls win outright KMAC Basketball Title

“We want to hang banners here.” He said it in the pregame and reiterated in a post game interview Centerburg Girl’s basketball Bill Abner’s Lady Trojans will be hanging a banner with an outright KMAC Championship with a 49-39 win over Fredericktown to claim the school’s first girl’s conference title since 2014. The win also improved Centerburg to 15-3 on the season.

The Freddies took the early lead with a Mya Bryant lay in but Tiara Sheppard and Kayla Larimore went back to back to give the Lady Trojans a 4-2 lead. Bryant scored to tie it but Larimore hit a three and Sheppard mad one free throw before nailing a field goal to make it 10-4 Lady Trojans end of one.

Sheppard extended the lead with a lay in and Bryant answered for the Freddies. A Kennedy Glenn three made it 15-6 Centerburg with 635 left in the quarter and Larimore added a three to further extend the Lady Trojans lead. Bryant scored again for the Freddies but Centerburg got back to back buckets from Sheppard and Larimore. Kennedy Algire and Mya Bryant each scored for the Lady Freddies to make it 22-12 with 219 left in the half. After a Larimore score made it a 12 point game Bryant and Cally Carpenter scored for the Lady Freddies to make it 24-16 at half.

Sheppard and Algire traded baskets to start the third and Glenn nailed a three to make it 29-18 with 427 left in the period. Algire got a two and a free throw but Sheppard got an and one to make it 32-21. Ella Bouton hit a free throw for Fredericktown and Clara Johnson got a steal and lay in but Carpenter got two of three free throws to got to make it 34-24 after 3.

In the fourth Carpenter scored to make it 34-26 Lady Trojan. Larimore hit a 4 free throws sandwiched with an Algire 2 to make it 38-28 Centerburg with 440 left. Bryant got a score before another and one from Sheppard and an Evie Stowe free throw to make it 42-30 with 3 minutes left. Bryant got a put back and one to get the Freddies within 9. Sheppard and Bryant traded baskets and it 44-35 Lady Trojans with 130 left. Algire got a basket and one to pull the Lady Freddies within 6 with 45 seconds left. Sheppard got a two and Larimore got one free throw and Algire got a free throw. Larimore scored at the buzzer to make it 49-39. Sheppard scored 21 and 19 points from Larimore. Bryant scored 19 points for the Lady Freddies.
