Revitalization Grant Proposed for 4th Ward

MOUNT VERNON, May 3, 2022 – The City of Mount Vernon is planning on applying for a
$750,000 Neighborhood Revitalization Grant (NRG) for a portion of the City’s 4th Ward. The target
area is bounded by Belmont Avenue, James Street, Marcia Drive and Mansfield Avenue. The grant
will be funded with Community Development Block Grant funds.


The grant will undertake street, sidewalk, storm drainage, park improvements, street lighting and
other neighborhood projects. The specific activities to be included in the grant have been
determined through a series of public meetings.


There will be two meetings on Monday, May 9, 2022 – at Faith Lutheran Church, 170 Mansfield
Ave., at 4:00 p.m. and at the Dan Emmet Park concession stand, 10 Nuce Road, at 5:30 p.m.


Target area residents are highly encouraged to attend these meetings to discuss the City’s project
before the application is submitted to the state. Cost estimates and project specifics will be
presented by City Engineer Brian Ball.
