MVNU faculty present voice recital

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University Music Department is pleased to present voice faculty members Carrie Vail, Rhonda Rom, and Dr. Lee Chambers in a spring recital Saturday, Feb. 17, at 3 p.m., in Thorne Performance Hall on the campus of MVNU.  The recital is free and open to the public.

Carrie Vail, mezzo-soprano and assistant professor of music at MVNU, will be singing “Frauenliebe und Leben” by Robert Schumann. This song cycle is based on poems by Adelbert v. Chamisso and documents the life of a woman in relation to her eventual husband.

Rhonda Rom, soprano and adjunct voice faculty at MVNU presents “Canciones Clásicas españolas” by Fernando Obradors. The overarching theme of this cycle is various kinds of love. The influence of Spanish dances, flamenco, and Spanish guitar are highlighted throughout the set. In addition to teaching voice at MVNU, Ms. Rom serves as Worship Director at Peace United Methodist Church in Pickerington.

Dr. Lee Chambers, tenor and adjunct voice faculty at MVNU, will perform three French arias. They are entitled “Robins m’aime” from Le jeu de Robin et de Marion, “Que ce Séjour est Agréable” from Platée, and Je crois entendre encore” from Les pêcheurs de perles. These pieces show the progression of French opera from the 13th through the 19th centuries. Dr. Chambers also serves as director of Student Success and the Nease Institute at MVNU.

The three soloists will combine as a trio for the finale piece entitled “Pria di partir, Oh Dio!” from Idomeneoby W.A. Mozart.
