Knox County, Ohio – The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) proudly promotes Constitution Week from September 17th to 23rd. This annual observance celebrates the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787, a document that has profoundly shaped American history and remains the foundation of our nation’s laws and freedoms.

The Lucy Knox Chapter of the DAR, based in Knox County, invites the community to join in commemorating this important week with a variety of activities. Constitution Week aims to encourage the study and education of the Constitution, foster a sense of patriotism, and honor the enduring impact of this historic document.

Events and Activities:

  • Educational Programs and Displays: Local schools, libraries, and civic organizations will feature special displays and programs throughout the week to highlight the significance of the Constitution.
  • Bell-Ringing Ceremony: A nationwide tradition, the DAR invites community members to participate in a bell-ringing ceremony on September 17th at 4:00 PM to honor the signing of the Constitution.
  • Public Readings and Presentations: Members of the Lucy Knox Chapter will host public readings of the Preamble and discuss the importance of the Constitution at various community events.

“We encourage everyone in Knox County to take part in this celebration, reflect on the freedoms we enjoy, and educate themselves about the Constitution’s role in American life,” said Kathy Gamble, spokesperson for the Lucy Knox Chapter. “This is a wonderful opportunity to come together and appreciate the values that unite us as a nation.”

Constitution Week was officially declared by Congress in 1956, thanks to the efforts of the DAR, who continues to promote the week with enthusiasm and dedication. The Lucy Knox Chapter is proud to uphold this tradition by engaging with local residents and fostering a deeper understanding of our nation’s history.
