High School Football Week 6

3-2 Mount Vernon host 0-5 Zanesville for their Homecoming Game

The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets currently sit in a playoff spot at the halfway mark of the season after a 38-22 win at Heath on Friday Night. Mason Richards nice season continued as he ran for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns and threw for 118 yards and another two scores (one each to Greyson Deem and Landon Dawson). Mount Vernon rushed for 299 yards in the win. Zanesville suffered their closest defeat at 21-13 last week to Northridge. Zanesville turned the ball over 4 times in the loss despite outgaining Northridge 242-193. Mount Vernon won 37-0 last season versus Zanesville. Zanesville has a 21 game losing streak coming into the game, their last win was week 4 of 2023.

2-3, 0-2 KMAC Danville at 2-3 at 0-2 KMAC Loudonville

Danville is coming off a 37-12 loss to Northmor last week. Northmor quarterback Tanner Miley totaled 3 touchdowns and ran for 91 yards and threw for 220 yards. Danville’s Nolan Ridgeway leads the conference in interceptions with 7 and thrown for 405 yards and 2 scores this year. Running back Cyren Wallace has rushed for 540 yards which is tied for 5th most in the KMAC. He has 5 rushing touchdowns. Danville’s Chris Mosher is the KMAC’s top tackler with 72. Loudonville is coming off a road loss at Centerburg 41-0 where the Trojans rushed for 408 yards. The Redbirds have lost 3 straight after a 2-0 start to the season.

4-1, 2-0 KMAC Centerburg at 3-2, 1-1 KMAC Cardington Lincoln

Centerburg’s ground game continues to dominate as they shut out Loudonville last week. The Trojans got 192 yards rushing from Miles Marshall in the win over the Redbirds. Marshall had a 92 yard touchdown run in that win. Quarterback Blane Ball rushed for 183 yards and had touchdown runs of 47, 33 and 6 yards in the win. On the season Marshall has run for 630 yards and a conference leading 10 rushing scores. Ball has thrown for 633 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Cardington Lincoln edged East Knox 36-35 last week. Wyatt Denney rushed for 3 touchdowns and 217 yards in the win. Quarterback Josh Goers ran for 123 yards and a score and Dillion Donker rushed for 57 yards and a score. Denney added 14 tackles on defense. Denney is the KMAC’s leading rushing as he has rushed for 929 yards and 9 touchdowns on the season while also amassing 62 tackles on defense. The Pirates are the third highest scoring team in the conference.

4-1, 1-1 KMAC Fredericktown at 3-2, 1-1 KMAC Northmor

The Freddies are coming off a 41-7 defeat to Mount Gilead in what was a battle of unbeatens this past Friday Night. The Freddies allowed 351 yards rushing in the loss. Despite the loss, which the Freddies played without Brode Davis the Freddies have a ton of threats on the field. Quarterback Blake Sipes has rushed for 6 touchdowns and thrown for 5 scores on the season.  Sipes has run for 541 yards. Defensively Gavin Toombs leads the KMAC in sacks and forced fumbles as he has been causing problems on the defensive side while also 276 yards receiving on offense. The Freddies defense is ranked 2nd in the KMAC. Northmor won last year’s match up 19-6.

5-0, 2-0 KMAC Mount Gilead host 1-4, 1-1 KMAC East Knox

The Indians are trying to do something they have never done before and that is start a season 6-0. Their rushing attack stymied the Freddies last week in a 41-7 victory. The Indians never attempted a pass in the game and rushed for 351 yards. Barnum recorded 164 of the team’s yards, while Jacob Wilt had 126 and Tyler Harr finished with 38. Barnum is second in the conference with 902 yards rushing, he’s added 9 rushing scores. Harr has run for 246 yards and 3 scores and Wilt has run for 259 yards and has the third highest average in yards per carry in the KMAC.  The Indians also have the top 4 players in tackles for loss in the KMAC. Mount Gilead’s defense is ranked the best in the KMAC.

East Knox is coming off a tough loss to the Pirates 36-35. The Bulldogs boasts the best passer in the league in Jax Lester who has thrown for a league high 1,112 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. Logan Clark has caught four touchdown passes and Rush Beatty has caught 5. Those two combine for 581 yards receiving on the year.
