MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — Mount Vernon Nazarene University Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Lauryn VanHoose as the next head coach of the women’s basketball program on Friday, May 2.
“We are excited to bring Lauryn to MVNU to lead our women’s basketball program. Throughout the interview process, her personal faith and ability to connect with people stood out to the search committee. We are excited to see how God will use her knowledge and leadership to continue using basketball as a platform for Christ at MVNU.”
VanHoose, who played collegiately at Heidelberg University from 2017-21, began her coaching career as a student assistant at the University in 2021-22. VanHoose was then named the head coach at Ohio Christian University, where she has been for the past three seasons. Along with this, VanHoose coached with the Special Olympics from 2016-24.
At Ohio Christian, VanHoose coached and developed seven all-conference players, two All-Americans, and a Conference Player of the Year. She also oversaw 14 scholar-athletes off the court in her tenure. During the 2023-24 season, VanHoose guided OCU to a 20-9 record and an 11-7 conference record. The 20 wins were OCU’s most since 2019, and the team’s conference record was tied for the best mark in program history. During the past season, VanHoose guided the Trailblazers to their first NCCAA D-1 Championship appearance in school history.
“I am very honored to be chosen as the next Head Women’s Basketball Coach here at MVNU. I am excited for this opportunity to be able to coach in a competitive environment while also pouring into my athletes spiritually. Lastly, I am so thankful to Chip Wilson and the staff for giving me this opportunity, and I look forward to getting started!”
