The Centerburg Trojans split the regular season match ups with the Fredericktown Freddies but the Trojans used great pitching and a big fourth inning to knock off the Freddies in a Division Five District Final 10-2 Thursday at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
Centerburg threatened in the bottom of the first as they loaded the bases but Brode Davis struck out Mason Vallance and induced a 6-3 double play to keep the game scoreless going to the second. The Freddies went 1-2-3 against starter Ricky Faught of Centerburg in the second frame and the Trojans put two on the board in the second inning. Vinny Morgan started the inning reaching on an error before he was caught stealing. Ryan Long got hit by a pitch and Davis walked Clarke Redd. Gabe Campos hit an RBI single and Aiden Trobridge got an RBI ground out to short and the Trojans led 2-0.
The Freddies answered in the third as Cole Burnside led off with a single and got to second on a passed ball. Grady Mills singled and Kaiden Gibson’s RBI ground out to first got the Freddies on the board. Centerburg went 1-2-3 in the third.
In the fourth The Freddies got a pair of singles but Carter Mull was nabbed at home on a stolen base attempt. Centerburg batted around in the fourth. Daniel Lemaster hit a two run single in the fourth and Mason Vallance hit a two run triple Centerburg scored 5 times to go up 7-1.
The Trojans added a run in the fifth on an Aiden Trobridge RBI single and Ricky Faught hit an RBI single and Vinny Morgan had an RBI ground out. Vallance scored on a passed ball to complete the Centerburg scoring. The Freddies scored a run in the 7th to cap the scoring.
Ricky Faught went 6 plus and allowed one run on 7 hits.
Davis went and inning and a third and allowed 2 runs for the Freddies.
Centerburg play in a Regional Semifinal next week at Elida
