As the school year starts to wind down, high school football is kicking off! On May 3rd, Mount Vernon hosted the Knox County College Showcase at Yellow Jacket Stadium, giving local student athletes a chance to take a step toward playing at the next level.
The event brought together athletes from around Knox County, including Mount Vernon, Danville , Highland, Fredericktown, and Centerburg, along with several college coaches. Players went through a variety of combine-style drills, including 40-yard dashes, punting, and other position-specific and endurance tests to show what they can do.
Events like this are huge for local athletes. It gives them a chance to get in front of college coaches without having to travel far, and for a lot of players, that kind of exposure can be hard to come by. It also helps them figure out where they fit best on the field and what they need to improve going into the season.
With the offseason now underway, the Knox County College Showcase is a strong starting point, not just for the upcoming season, but for players looking to turn local talent into future opportunities at the college level.
