Sipes scores 26, Rinehart adds 20 as the Freddies win KMAC once again

The Fredericktown Freddies are KMAC champions once again with a 77-71 road win at Cardington Lincoln Friday Night. The Freddies, 16-4 and 13-1 in KMAC fell behind 3-0 early as Journey Williamson hit a three but after back to back buckets by Blake Sipes and Gavin Toombs the Freddies took a one point lead. Williamson got another bucket before back to back threes by Carson Rinehart and two Toombs free throws made it 12-5 with 346 to go in the period. Cardington big man Brayden Lackey got his first points of the game to cut into the lead. Williamson then missed a pair of free throws before Lackey scored again to make it 12-9. Tanner Estep and AJ Brehm traded baskets to keep it a three point game at 14-11 with a minute left in the quarter. Brode Davis hit a three for the Freddies to go up 3. Samuel Jones hit 1/2 free throws before Sipes laid one in right before the horn for Fredericktown to go up 19-12 after one quarter.

The Fredericktown Freddies went up 10 a minute into the second quarter on a three by Zane Luckmeier. Warren Garrison got his first points on a three for the Pirates but Davis answered it with his own triple. Brehm and Lackey got back to back scores to make it 25-16 with 455 to go in the quarter. Sipes hit 1/2 free throws before Garrison hit a three to make it 26-22 with 419 left in the half. Sipes would score 5 straight including a head of the key three for the Freddies to go up 9 with just over two minutes left in the quarter. Brehm got a a two before Luckemeier made a pair of free throws to keep it a 9 point lead. Rinehart got a two for the Freddies to go up 11 but Garrison got a score before hit a free throw and then a two for the Freddies to go up 38-26 at half.

Brehm cut the lead to 10 to start the second half but Davis hit his third three of the night to send the Freddies up 13. Brehm and Toombs traded buckets but Williamson hit a three to make it 43-33 with 555 to go in the quarter. Rinehart hit a three 20 seconds later and then scored a two and the after a Toombs free throw the Freddies led 49-35. Brehm got a pair of free throws. Sipes got a bucket and Brehm got back to back scores and Kalin Briggs hit a two to get within 8. Luckmeier upped the Freddies lead to 11 with a triple. Rinehart hit a three before Brehm scored 3 straight. Sipes ended the quarter with 2 free throws to got up 13 going to the 4th.

Luckmeier made it a 16 point lead with a three to start the 4th but the Pirates were not giving in. Briggs and Brehm each got a score but Sipes 2 kept it a 14 points Freddies lead with 64-50 with 629 to go. Garrison got a two before Sipes went back to back to go up 16 with 547 to go. Garrison hit a three before Briggs and Brehm were also part of a 9-0 Pirates run to get within 7 with 334 left. Rinehart’s score stopped the run but Brehm quickly answered before Toombs missed a pair of free throws. Williamson made 1/2 from the line before a Sipes bucket 28 seconds later made it 72-64 lead for the Freddies with 90 seconds left. Garrison scored 5 straight including a three with 45 seconds left the cut the Fredericktown lead to 3 with 45 seconds left. After a pair of cold blooded free throws by Rinehart the Freddies led by 5 but Brehm wasn’t done. He got a two to got to get it back to a three point game before Sipes hit a huge free throw to get it back to a two possession game and Brode Davis sealed it with two at the line. Freddies went on to win 77-71.

Sipes had 26 to the lead the Freddies. Rinehart added 20 and Davis had 11. Toombs had 7 in the win and Luckmeier scored 11 points.

Brehm had a game high 29 points and Warren Garrison scored 18 in the win. The loss dropped the Pirates to 16-3 and 12-2 in the KMAC.
