Retzlaff receives Athlete of the Week recognition

CLEVELAND, Ohio — For the fourth time over the last six weeks, a member of the Kenyon College women’s indoor track and field team has been picked as the North Coast Athletic Conference’s (NCAC) Mid-Distance/Distance Athlete of the Week. Ellianne Retzlaff received her first career Athlete of the Week award after a strong showing at home in the Kenyon Tune-Up.

Retzlaff earned her recognition for her performance in the final event on Friday, the 3,000-meter race. The senior ran the race in 11:44.85, pacing the five-runner field. In addition to Retzlaff crossing first, the Owls dominated the distance race as the top four finishers were from Kenyon’s roster.

Retzlaff’s time was her fastest in the event this season, besting her 11:49.65 mark set at the Steemer Showcase on February 1. The senior’s career-best time of 11:19.73 came at the 2023 NCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, and she will be looking to ride her Athlete of the Week award into the 2025 championship meet this weekend. Retzlaff and the Owls kick off the two-day NCAC Championship meet at Oberlin College on Friday, February 28.
