Pair of Walk-Offs Down Lady Cougars at Huntington 

HUNTINGTON, Ind. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (15-12, 8-10 CL) traveled to Huntington, Indiana to take on the Foresters of Huntington University (23-10, 12-7 CL) in a conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 8.  

Game 1 Summary: 

Huntington took the lead first, scoring a run in the bottom of the third inning to make it 1-0. Both teams added a run in the sixth inning, but the Foresters still held a slim 2-1 advantage. In the top of the seventh, the Lady Cougars exploded for six runs, jumping ahead 7-1. However, the bottom of the seventh proved challenging for the Lady Cougars, as Huntington mounted a comeback. The Foresters capped off the game with a walk-off sacrifice fly to right field, winning 8-7 to start the doubleheader. 

Game 2 Summary: 

MVNU and Huntington both scored early in the first inning, each putting up one run. In the top of the third, Sophie Durbin stepped to the plate and roped a triple, driving in Zhari Hill, who had singled to center earlier in the inning. Mollie Petz then hit a double, bringing Durbin across the plate. Huntington responded in the bottom of the third with a run, narrowing MVNU’s lead to 3-2. The Foresters went on to score in the sixth and seventh innings, ultimately edging out the Lady Cougars with another walk-off, this time on a single to center field. Huntington secured the sweep with a 4-3 win in game two. 

What’s Next: 

The Lady Cougars will be back on the road as they travel to Mishawaka, Indiana to take on the Pilots of Bethel University on Thursday, April 10. The first pitch of the doubleheader will be at 3:00 p.m.
