Owls sweep Sweet Briar for third straight win

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Kenyon College women’s tennis team won a third straight dual on Sunday afternoon, sweeping Sweet Briar College 7-0 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. The Owls vexed the Vixens, winning 18 of 22 doubles games before taking 72 of 85 singles games. The victory marked Kenyon’s third straight 7-0 sweep and pushed the team’s record to 4-3.

The bottom of Kenyon’s lineup produced the dual’s most lopsided victories as the Owls’ No. 3 doubles duo won 6-0 while their Nos. 4, 5, and 6 singles players won by combined scores of 36-3. Ana Brand and Lalasa Nagireddy were responsible for the doubles sweep.

The Owls also added a 6-1 win in the No. 2 doubles flight as Shadia Amado Aguad and Clare Hudson handled their matchup. Hudson also had a hand in the impressive outcomes at the end of Kenyon’s singles lineup, winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4.

Two fellow first-years added to Kenyon’s singles success down the line. Maggie Shope secured a flawless 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the fifth flight, while Elizabeth Ackermann added a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 2 spot.

Eleni Lazaridou led the way for Kenyon at the top of the lineup, winning 6-1, 6-0 in singles, and pairing with Hana Nouaime to win 6-3 in doubles. Amado Aguad added a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 2 singles bout, while Brand won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3.

Kenyon will look to keep its winning streak going March 10, when the Owls are scheduled to take on Rhodes College (5-2) under the lights at 6:30 p.m.
