Owls finish off NCAC Championship in third place

WESTFIELD CENTER, Ohio — On the third and final day of the 2023 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Golf Championship, the Kenyon College Owls fired their best round of the tournament, a 296, which put them in sole possession of third place with a three-day final team total of 897 strokes.

The Owls finished behind first-place Wittenberg University, which totaled an 864, and second-place Denison University, which posted an 892 on the par-70, 6,733-yard North Course at Westfield Country Club.

In terms of individual placement, first-year Will Hulsey led Kenyon with a three-day total of 222, which put him in a tie for fifth place and netted him first-team All-NCAC honors. He carded a 72 Sunday, a low for the team, and preceded it with a pair of 75s. Junior Griffin Ward was not far behind, firing a 225 and tying for 10th place, which was good for All-NCAC second-team honors. Ward put up rounds of 76, 74, and 75.

Senior Logan Spiess was also an All-NCAC honoree, taking a spot on the third team by tying for 14th place in the field of 39 conference golfers. Spiess scored rounds of 76, 75, and 75 for a 226.

Rounding out the team’s individual scores, Kenyon’s two other golfers, Armand Ouellette and Garrett Thesing, wrapped things up with three-day totals of 227 and 230, respectively. Ouellette finished in a tie for 16th place and Thesing tied for 24th place.
