MIRAMAR BEACH, FL – The Kenyon College men’s golf team wrapped up its fall schedule on Tuesday with the third and final round of the Golfweek October Classic from Ravenwood Golf Club.
After a 13-over-par score in round one, the Owls rebounded with an even-par team score in round two and backed it up with the best round of all to close it out, firing a one-under 283 to finish 12th overall out of the 24-team field with a team score of +12 (864).
Junior Will Hulsey was Kenyon’s best overall scorer, shooting even par for the tournament on the 6,623-yard par 71 track. Hulsey shot a four-over 75 on day one, but stayed in red figures for the final 36 holes. In round two on Monday, he led the team with a one-under 70, and finished with his best round of the week, carding a three-under 68.
Hulsey’s 68 was the best round by any Owls golfer during the tournament. He made four birdies on the day, two per side, and recorded the team’s only eagle for the week on the 298-yard par four 15th hole. He finished 28th out of the 120-golfer field.
Next up for Kenyon was Jaiden Koonar, who ended the tournament at three-over par. The sophomore was fairly steady for the week, shooting 73, 72, and 71 respectively. He ended the week with his best round yet, making three birdies to place himself 44th on the charts. For the week, Koonar made at least three birdies in each round, joining Hulsey as the only Owl to do so.
Jonathan Oakes placed third on the Owls’ ranks and 52nd on the leaderboards, shooting four over par on the tournament. The sophomore was under-par early in each of his three rounds but never could get rolling, shooting two over in round one (73), and one over in rounds two and three (72).
Rounding out the Kenyon team were Adrian Jordan and Armand Ouellette, who shot +9 and +10 respectively to finish 77th and 83rd on the individual leaderboard. Jordan opened play with a 77, but came back with five birdies en route to a one-under 70 in round two. He finished off his week with a 75.
Ouellette carded an under-par nine-hole score in each of his three rounds, but could not get them back-to-back. He shot the best nine-hole score on the team on day one, ending with a 76. He shot a 75 in his second round, but came back with his best round of the week, a 72 in round three.
For the tournament, Washington & Lee took home first place with a -30 score. Sewanee slotted into second with a -23 score to par, while LeTourneau Univeersity sat at -6, good enough for third.
Kenyon will resume play in the spring and look to defend its 2023-2024 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship title and improve on its program-best NCAA Tournament finish from 2024, where the Owls tied for eighth.
