Orth represents Owls as NCAC Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Following a standout showing in the throwing pit at Kenyon’s newly-named Duane Gomez Invitational, the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) named the Owls’ Riley Orth as their Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Orth was a key contributor to Kenyon’s second-place team finish at the inaugural Duane Gomez Invitational. He racked up 26 of the Owls’ 151 points over three events, picking up two wins, a third-place finish, and a program record. The sophomore started the day with a gold-medal performance in the shot put, topping the field of 17 with a 14.69-meter (48-2½) throw. He then launched the discus 41.55 meters (136-4) to place third.

Orth rewrote the Owls’ record books in his final event with a 43.98-meter (144-3) hurl in the hammer throw. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native has been on a three-week tear in the event, posting program records at each of Kenyon’s last three outings. After setting the record last season with a mark of 40.68 meters (133-5), Orth recorded throws of 43.68 meters (143-4) and 43.95 meters (144-2) in consecutive outings before rewriting history again.

Orth and the Owls will be looking to continue their strong stretch when they head to nearby Granville, Ohio, for the team’s regular-season finale. Kenyon is scheduled to compete in the Big Red Invite, hosted by Denison University, on Friday, April 28. Throws are set to start at 12:30 p.m. before the remaining field events begin at 2 p.m., and running events are scheduled for 5 p.m.
