NCAC coaches pick Owls as preseason favorite

CLEVELAND –Six-time defending North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) champion Kenyon College was tabbed as the favorite in the race for the 2022 men’s soccer championship according to preseason balloting of the league coaches.

The Owls collected seven of the nine possible first-place votes and 79 points overall. Ohio Wesleyan University was picked second after garnering one first-place vote and 71 total points, while Denison University was selected third, collecting the final first-place vote and 64 points overall. Wabash College was tabbed fourth with 50 points, followed by DePauw University (37) in fifth, Oberlin College (36) and The College of Wooster (36) in a tie for sixth, Wittenberg University (23) in eighth and Hiram College (9) in ninth.

Kenyon finished the 2021 season with a 16-3-1 overall record and the 12th conference title in program history. In 17 seasons at Kenyon, head coach Chris Brown continues to add to his total of most wins in program history with a 219-70-35 coaching mark, including nine NCAA tournament appearances.

The 2022 Owls report today with their first practice scheduled for tomorrow. The season gets underway with a home game against Ohio Northern University on Thursday, September 1.
