MVNU Softball Falls Twice to Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (0-2) opened its season in Lake Wales, Florida against Warner University (6-10) on Wednesday, February 28.

MVNU fell in the first game by a final score of 5-6. MVNU started strong as it got off to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Mollie Pentz, Kiera Myer, and Avery Miller each drove in runs to get MVNU on the board. Warner responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, and used a big, five-run fourth inning to take control. Brooklyn Krum hit a two-run homer, the first of her career, in the top-fifth to close the gap to just one. Unfortunately for the Lady Cougars, they were unable to find the tying run in the final inning to extend the ballgame.

Game two saw MVNU fall by a score of 6-10 after Warner got off to a quick start in the game. The hosts scored seven runs in the first three-innings to build a comfortable lead. MVNU kept battling and used a six-run fourth to make the score 6-7. Kennady Ruhl scored Kylie Rohr with a double, Krum tripled to drive in Ruhl, Mackenzie Hancock doubled to score Krum, and Zhari Hill drove in Hancock and Mallory Holcomb with a double. The sixth run of the inning came when Ruhl was walked with the bases loaded, bringing home Hill.

Warner scored three runs in the fifth to go up 10-5 and eventually would defeat MVNU by a final of 10-6.

MVNU will play Ohio Christian and Point Park in Clermont, Florida on Thursday, February 29. Game times are 9:00am and 1:30pm.
