The Centerburg Trojans and Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets each had District Champion baseball teams this spring and some of their top players were honored as All Ohio selections Monday.
First team in Division Two Senior Pitcher Nick Weiss of Big Walnut was 9-1 with a 0.84 ERA this past season in 66 1/3 innings. He struck out 47 hitters. Meanwhile Mount Vernon catcher Ezra Kurek, who hit a home run in the teams’ season ending loss to Big Walnut was also named first team. Kurek hit .434 in the regular season and drove in 17 runs while smacking 13 doubles. Mount Vernon third baseman Kayden Packard hit 2 homers and drove in 23 this past season to also named to the first team. Grady Bush and Cam Simmons of New Albany also were All Ohio selections. Both will play in a State Final Four this Friday at 10am. Nolan Buirley of Big Walnut Second Team.
In Division Three Licking Valley’s Evan Lichtenstein’s monster season got him a first team selection. He finished 9-0 with a .25 ERA. Allowing just two earned runs in 57 innings pitched. The Panthers will play in a State Final Four at 10am Friday at Canal Park. Lexington’s Cam Hamler and Granville’s Wilson Wells were also named first team selections.
In Division Four Shelby’s Quinton Albert was a first team selection along with Tanner Patterson of Heath. Heath’s Connor Corbett was second team All Ohio after hitting .427 this past season.
In Division 5 Centerburg’s Daniel Lemaster was named to the first team All Ohio. Lemaster broke several school records this past year including wins in a season and strikeouts in a season. He finished 12-0 with a 0.44 ERA while striking out 164 in 79 innings while leading Centerburg to their first Conference Title since 1982 and first District Title since 2018.
Cardington Lincoln’s Wyatt Wade was first team All Ohio in Division 6. Wade hit .452 with three homers and 26 RBI. Cardington Lincoln’s Wyatt Denny was second team. Denny hit .436 and scored 44 runs for the Pirates this past season.
Newark Catholic’s Owen Przymierski was named first team as a pitcher. He was 6-2 with a .60 ERA while striking out 89 hitters in 58 innings. The Green Wave’s Miller Hutchinson and Mikey Hess were named to the second team in Division 7. The Green Wave play #1 Tiffin Calvert in a State Final Four Thursday at 1pm at Canal Park.
