Mount Vernon joining Licking County League

On Monday November 21st, the Mount Vernon Board of Education accepted an invitation for Mount Vernon City Schools to join the Licking County League and withdraw from the Ohio Cardinal Conference beginning in the fall of 2024.

While we were not actively seeking a new conference, the Licking County League (LCL) sent an official invitation for Mount Vernon to join the LCL in the fall of 2022.  After careful consideration and discussion amongst the Board of Education, Superintendent, and coaches, the decision was ultimately decided to pursue this new direction for our programs and schools.

The revised Licking County League configuration is better aligned with the future vision for our athletic programs and community. Our willingness to entertain the LCL’s invitation revolved primarily around travel, participation, and recognition with schools in the Central District and surrounding area.

While the Board of Education accepted the Licking County Leagues invitation, Mount Vernon will remain a member of the Ohio Cardinal Conference through the 2023-24 school year and transition fully into the LCL in the fall of 2024.

It is a pleasure to be part of the Ohio Cardinal Conference and yet, the Jackets look forward to building new relationships and rivalries in the Licking County League in the coming years.
