Men’s Soccer Set to Begin 2023 Season in Kentucky

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s soccer team will begin its 2023 season on Wednesday, August 23 with a 7:00pm EST matchup at Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, Kentucky.

Head Coach Zach Ganzberg’s team went 7-6-5 overall with a 2-3-4 record in Crossroads League play in 2022.

Keon Boney, Zack Bowser, and Ryan Walters are among the key returners for Coach Ganzberg’s team in the fall. Each received All-League honors in 2022 and are instrumental in what the Cougars do on the field. Boney will look to be an offensive force once again this year. The fifth-year senior from Manzanilla, Trinidad and Tobago claimed a spot as First-Team All-Leaguer last season. The forward came away with 10 goals, two assists, and a shot-on-goal percentage of 50%. Bowser earned Honorable Mention honors, as he was able to be a key contributor for the team as well. The junior forward from Chesterton, Indiana finished the season with four goals and one assist. Walters also earned Honorable Mention honors from the Crossroads League last season. The senior was strong as a defender in 2022. Walters also contributed offensively with three assists on the season.

Ganzberg has an influx of talent coming in to add depth and strength to the squad. Bram Stolp, Noah Aikawa, Daniel Martinez, Chucho Salgado, Dante Cooper, Liam Strong, KC Howard, Max Schwalk, Brayden Primmer, Seth Richardson, Noah Tucker, Troy Kelley, and Calvin Henthorn join the program in 2023.

With the returning experience on the roster, plus the addition of a talented 2023 recruiting class, Ganzberg and his Cougars will look to improve on last season and make some noise in the Crossroads League in 2023.
