Larimore dominates in Centerburg win over Northmor

The Centerburg Lady Trojans started the second half of KMAC play in girls basketball coming off their first loss of the year but Wednesday Night the Lady Trojans went on to beat Northmor 65-26.

Ryann Brinkman started the scoring on the night for Northmor with a free throw 14 seconds into the game. After Kayla Larimore, the KMAC’s leading scorer, missed to free throws, she got the games first field goal at the 5:11 mark. Kenlee Fairall got a steal and lay in and after one free throw from Larimore Centerburg led 5-1. Shelby Cooper scored for the Golden Knights and Larimore got a another bucket before Cooper scored again to make it 7-6 Centerburg with 130 to go in the period. Evie Stowe and Tiara Sheppard scored back to back for Centerburg and Larimore hit 2 free throws before Ryann Brinkman’s went one for two from the line to make it 13-7 Trojans after one.

Larimore opened up the scoring in the second quarter to up Centerburg’s lead to 8. Maizy Brinkman scored a minute into the quarter and Ryann Brinkman missed a pair of free throws before Centerburg went on a 12-1 run to make it 27-10 with 236 to go in the period. Centerburg got 6 from Larimore during that stretch and Chesnee Fairall got two points and Stowe scored 4. Taylor Bryant later hit a three to up the Lady Trojans lead to 30-14 and Larimore capped the quarter off with a 3 and the Lady Trojans led 33-16 at half.

Centerburg outscored Northmor 28-7 in the third quarter as Sheppard scored and Claire Tackett and Ryann Brinkman made back to back buckets for Northmor. Shelby Cooper and Larimore each hit a free throw to make it 38-21 Lady Trojans with 4:39 to go in the period. Ryann Brinkman and Larimore each hit two free throws before Larimore got a score followed by a three point play and two more free throws to up the lead to 47-23 Lady Trojans with 111 left in the third. Sheppard finished the quarter for Centerburg with a pair of free throws and a two to lead 51-23 after 3.

The Lady Trojans opened the fourth on a 14-0 run with Sheppard scoring 7 including a three and Larimore scoring two along with Stowe and Kenlee Fairall hitting a three and Centerburg led 65-23 with 408 left. Northmor finished the scoring with a free throw from Tackett and Bella Smith hitting a shot to finish the game.

Centerburg improved to 11-1 and 7-1 in the KMAC but took over sole possession of first place in the KMAC with Fredericktown losing to Cardington Lincoln.

Larimore, who came in averaging 21 points a game scored a game high 29 for Centerburg while Sheppard scored 15 for the Lady Trojans who improved to 11-1 and 7-1 in the KMAC while Northmor dropped to 4-8 and 2-6 in the KMAC. Ryann Brinkman scored 11 points for Northmor in the loss.
