Lady Trojans take down Lady Bulldogs Saturday, set to face Loudonville Wednesday

The Centerburg Lady Trojans girls basketball team improved to 15-1 Saturday and 10-1 in the KMAC with a 62-34 win over East Knox Saturday afternoon. The scoring was slow but got started with 417 to go in the opening period when Tiara Sheppard got a bucket for Centerburg. Kenlee Fairall then got a steal and score and a three pointer to up the lead to 7-0. It got to 9-0 when Kayla Larimore scored her first points of the game at the 149 mark of the quarter. The Bulldogs got on the board with 132 to go in the period when Malena Streby hit a three which was answered by a Kenlee Fairall score and after Streby hit 1/2 free throws the Lady Trojans led 11-4 after one.

In the second quarter the Bulldogs got a quick 7-0 run to open the period on a 3 by Senior Sydney Opfer and back to back buckets from Ella Divan to tie the game at 11 with 620 to go in the quarter. Lauren Ellis broke the tie with a three before Opfer got both free throws to make it 14-13 Centerburg with 5 minutes to go in the half. Kenlee Fairall hit a 3 and then 1/2 free throws to go up 18-13 with 412 to go in the half. Evie Stowe then added a score and Jamine Smith hit 1/2 free throws for East Knox to get to within 20-14. Tiara Sheppard for Centerburg then went off she hit 1/2 free throws followed by a 3 which was then followed by 5 more points including a three to increase the lead to 29-14. Isabelle Bostic stopped the 9-0 run with a pair of free throws before Sheppard got a two and nailed a three to increase the lead to 18. Kayla Larimore ended the half with two free throws and Centerburg led 36-16 at half.

In the Third Centerburg outscored East Knox 15-8. Kenlee Fairall had back to back steals and lay ins to open the half and Larimore scored before an Ellis 3 to make it 45-16 Centerburg with 516 to go in the quarter. Larimore then scored back to back buckets before Smith hit 3/4 free throws and Totten added 1/2 from the line along with Opfer hitting both free throws after a technical foul to make it 49-22 with 108 left in the period. Larimore and Opfer traded buckets to end the quarter.

In the fourth Ellis opened hitting 1/2 from the line and Sheppard got a deuce to up Centerburg’s lead to 30 before Divan answered with a 2. Ellis and Opfer then traded 3’s and Totten scored for the Bulldogs to make it 57-31 with 5 minutes left. Sheppard scored followed by one Divan free throw before Stowe hit a 3 for Centerburg with 35 seconds left. Ava Faucett capped the scoring with a 2 to finish it at 62-24.

The loss dropped East Knox to 6-6, 4-6 in the KMAC. East Knox Plays at Cardington Lincoln Wednesday.

Sheppard scored 20 to lead the Lady Trojans. Kayla Larimore scored 12 and Kenlee Fairall had 17 for Centerburg. Sidney Opfer had 12 for the Bulldogs
