The Lady Freddies couldn’t buy a bucket in the first quarter of Saturday KMAC match up at home against Northmor but the team’s defense stepped up and led to a 48-32 win. The Lady Golden Knights (6-11, 4-9) got a three from Lexi See 32 seconds into the game and a Ryann Brinkman score and followed by a pair of Shelby Cooper free throws and another Brinkman bucket gave the Golden Knights a 9-0 lead with 346 left in the quarter. Ella Bouton got Fredericktown on the board with a rebound and put back but missed the free throw to make it 9-2. Bouton scored again to cut into the lead but Maizy Brinkman hit a three and Northmor led 12-4 after one.
The Lady Freddies Gracyn Toombs hit 1/2 free throws and Mya Bryant scored 6 straight points on two point baskets to get the Lady Freddies within a point. They took the lead on Cally Carpenter’s first points of the game and after Northmor missed 4 straight free throws an intentional foul was called on the Freddies and Lexi See hit 1/2 free throws to tie the game at 13 with 31 seconds left in the half. Carpenter got a score and on the ensuing in bound Bouton stole the pass and scored right before the horn to give the Freddies a 17-13 halftime lead.
In the third it was Bouton again nailing a three and Kennedy Algire getting a two to increase the Freddies lead to 22-13 with 635 left in the period. Lexi See again hit one of two free throws before Carpenter drilled a three. Ryann Brinkman answered before a three point play by Carpenter upped the lead to 28-16 with 422 left in the quarter. Bryant scored again and Carpenter hit both free throws to increase the lead to 32-16 before Claire Tackett hit two free throws. Carpenter stayed hot with a three and another score to make it 37-18. Ryann Brinkman hit 1/2 free throws and Tackett scored again to make it 37-21 Freddies after three.
In the fourth Bryant increased the Freddies lead 18 seconds in with a pair at the line and Maizy Brinkman got a score before five straight for the Freddies on a an Algire two and Bouton 3 to got up 44-23. Maizy Brinkman scored to close the gap to 19 before a pair of Carpenter free throws and a Bouton score made it 48-25 with 315 left. The lady Golden Knights scored the last 7 points on a shot by Maizy Brinkman, two free throws by Riley Cooper and 3 Kallie Wright free throws.
