The Lady Freddies struggled shooting in their high school girls basketball game in a 44-32 loss to Cardington Wednesday but bounced back with a 51-41 win Saturday at East Knox. Reese Todd opened the scoring with a three for the Bulldogs but Kit Bellman got a bucket before an Ella Divan put back made it 5-2 Bulldogs less than a minute into the game. Cally Carpenter, who was celebrating her birthday Saturday got a steal and lay in to cut into the lead. Sydney Opfer traded buckets with Mya Bryant and it was 7-6 East Knox with 538 to go in the quarter. Bellman hit back to back threes and Todd hit another triple to make it 12-10 Freddies. After Vika Arnett went to the line twice hitting 2/4 the Freddies got a free throw by Olivia Harris and a bucket from Gracyn Toombs to lead 17-10 after one.
In the second Divan got a bucket and Toombs answered before the Freddis went 2/4 from the line in two trips. Kennedy Algire and Bryant got scores at the 408 mark and 240 mark to lead 25-12 at half.
The scoring really picked up in the third. Bryant got a score to increase the Freddies lead and then Isabelle Bostic made 1/2 from the line to go up 30-13 with 642 left in the third. The Bulldogs rattled off 7 straight with a Todd score, a Divan three and Faucett deuce. Carpenter hit a three for Fredericktown and then Opfer made 2 free throws to make it 33-22 Freddies with 426 to go in the third. Carpenter got a bucket and then an and one to got up 38-22. Molly Totten hit a three and made two free throws that were followed by an Opfer basket to get within 9. After the Freddies missed both free throws Opfer hit both free throws but the second was waved off due to a lane violation so the Freddies led 3-30 after 3.
In the fourth Bella Ritchie got a score for the Freddies and then Opfer got two to get the Bulldogs within 8 with 710 left. Carpenter scored on back to back possessions to increase the Freddies lead. Cloe Tucker hit a three for the Bulldogs to trail 44-35. Algire got back to back scores for the Freddies to lead 48-35 with 440 left. Ella Bouton’s three gave the Freddies a 16 point lead before Ava Faucett scored for the Bulldogs. The Freddies missed 4 free throws before Opfer made two from the line with 136 left to cut the lead to 12 Opfer scored again but it wasn’t enough as the Freddies won 51-41.
Freddies improved to 11-2 and 7-2 in the KMAC to stay a game behind Centerburg who beat Danville Saturday.
The Bulldogs fell to 5-6 and 3-5 in the KMAC.
Bellman had 11 for the Freddies. Carpenter had 16 for Fredericktown.
Opfer had 13 for the Bulldogs.
