Lady Cougars Sweep Wolverines, Improve to 7-0 on Season

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s volleyball team (7-0, 0-0 CL) remains undefeated after taking down the University of Michigan-Dearborn (2-2, 0-0) three sets to none on Monday night, August 29 in Ariel Arena.

The hosts showed their superiority and did not allow the Wolverines a foothold in any of the three sets. The Lady Cougars won the first set 25-23, the second 25-18, and won the third and final set by a score of 25-19.

Inside the Box Score

Erica Gasser had a very nice night as she led the team with 12 kills.

Ashley Stumperth also helped pace the MVNU attack with 11 kills. She added four digs.

Paige Brenner was at her usual best by securing 24 assists and adding six digs.

Molly Galaszewski and Jaelyn Tang added 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

Faith Maloney and Grace Green each contributed with five kills apiece.

What’s Next

The Lady Cougars will look to continue their red-hot start to the season as they travel to the Siena Heights Invite in Adrian, Michigan on Friday, September 2. They will face off with Roosevelt University (3:00pm) and Cardinal Stritch (5:00pm) on Friday evening, before playing two more matches on Saturday afternoon.
