GOSHEN, Ind. — The No.20 Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (21-6, 13-5 CL) defeated Goshen College (19-12, 11-7) twice on Monday, April 10.
MVNU took game one of the series by a final of 12-3. Goshen jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings of work, but the Lady Cougars responded with two runs in the third and three in the fourth. It was all MVNU from that point on as it exploded for five runs in the sixth and two more in the final inning. Avery Miller and Kennady Ruhl each went deep for the Lady Cougars, and Macee Marcum led all batters with five RBI’s. Megan Pentz collected a game-high three hits.
Sheridan Sullivan got the job done in the circle, pitching all seven innings, and allowing just four hits and three runs. Sullivan had 13 strikeouts in her eighth victory of the season.
MVNU took game two against the Maple Leafs by a final score of 6-1. After falling behind 1-0, MVNU used a big fourth inning to carry it to victory. Marcum hit a two-run homer to start things off, and Ruhl hit her second long ball of the day, this time a two-run shot, to put MVNU up 4-1. Kylee Pettit then hit a bases clearing triple that drove in the final two runs of the game.
Nadia Hoffman got the win for MVNU as she pitched seven innings and gave up just one run. The sophomore gave up just three hits and had 12 strikeouts.

MVNU takes on Huntington University on Tuesday, April 11 at home. The doubleheader is set to begin at 3:00pm.
