Lady Cougars Pick Up First Conference Victory

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s soccer team (4-5-2, 1-0-1) defeated Goshen College (3-6-1, 0-2-0) by a final score of 3-0 on Wednesday, September 28.

Both teams came out strong, producing numerous scoring opportunities early in the match. Caitlin Erlandson found the back of the net in the 19 minute, finishing a threw ball by Sarah Townsend, putting the team up 1-0. The rest of the half continued to be a back and forth affair, with Goshen having nine shots and MVNU taking six.

The Lady Cougars were able to extend their lead in the second half with a goal by Addison Crace in the 70 minute of the game. Crace found the back of the net once again in the 84 minute, scoring the final goal of the match, finishing a threw ball by Riley Tew. Crace’s goals were the first two of her career. MVNU would go on to win the match by a final of 3-0.

The Lady Cougar defense had a great night, only allowing the Maple Leafs four shots on goal. Hannah Miller turned in a clean sheet. She had four saves in goal.

MVNU takes on Huntington University at home on October 1. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
