EBANON, Tenn. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s basketball team (4-10) wrapped up its Tennessee trip with a non-conference game at Cumberland University (12-2) on Tuesday, December 16.
Eight MVNU turnovers in the game’s opening quarter propelled the Phoenix to a 22-15 lead after one. Cumberland continued to keep the pressure on the Lady Cougars and would take a 42-29 lead into halftime. Cumberland poured it on in the third and took a 65-45 lead heading into the fourth. The Lady Cougars were unable to mount a comeback, falling in the end by a final score of 82-53.
MVNU shot 37.8% from the field and 31.6% (6-19) from three. Cumberland shot 46.9% from the floor and was 29.4% (7-14) from deep. MVNU finished with 28 turnovers which led to 35 points for Cumberland.
Kylie Leibacher led the Lady Cougars with 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Angela Roshak had 11 points, two assists, two steals, and a block. Anna Swisshelm added nine points, six rebounds, and two assists.
What’s Next
MVNU will take a few weeks off for the holiday season and will resume Crossroads League play on January 3 at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
