Lady Cougars Defeated at (RV) St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s basketball team (6-6, 2-3 CL) opened its Florida trip with a contest at undefeated and receiving votes St. Thomas University (12-0, 5-0 SC) on Thursday, December 15.

St. Thomas pounced on MVNU early and held a 25-18 lead after one. MVNU trailed 38-47 at halftime. St. Thomas continued to keep its foot on the gas as it came out in the second half strong. MVNU was outscored 24-13 in the period and entered the fourth quarter down 51-71. Despite the score, the Lady Cougars continued to fight and play hard in the fourth. MVNU outscored the Bobcats 29-18, but ultimately fell in the end by a final score of 80-89.

Inside the Box Score

Maggie Coe had 25 points and eight rebounds to lead the way for the Lady Cougars.

Sage Brannon had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Brannon also had five assists.

Peyton Davis was the third Lady Cougar in double-figures with 12 points. Davis had three rebounds and two steals.

What’s Next

MVNU will look to bounce back on Friday, December 16 at Florida Memorial University at 5:30pm.
