Lady Cougars Come Away with a Win at Grace

WINONA LAKE, Ind. — The (RV) Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (19-4, 11-3 CL) split its doubleheader at Grace College (6-15, 5-11) on Tuesday, April 4.

Leading 3-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, MVNU saw the Lancers score two runs for a walk-off victory. Sheridan Sullivan pitched four innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs. Sullivan had two strikeouts in the 4-3 defeat. Maddelyn Wine pitched three innings for the Lady Cougars and allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out three Lancers. Wine was charged with the loss in the circle.

MVNU regained its form in game two against the Lancers, winning by a resounding score of 9-1. The offense was clicking for the Lady Cougars as they scored two runs in each of the second, fourth, and sixth innings. Kylee Matern smacked an inside the park homerun in the seventh that scored three runs to put the game away. Nadia Hoffman got the win in the circle for the Lady Cougars. Hoffman pitched four innings and allowed just one hit and one earned run. The sophomore had four strikeouts. Sullivan pitched three shutout innings of relief. Sullivan had five strikeouts and gave up just one hit.

MVNU next plays at Cougar Field on Thursday, April 6 as it hosts Taylor University. The doubleheader begins at 3:00pm.
