On Friday Night Knox County Senior Boys and Girls Basketball Players took the court for possibly the last time and the Boys game ended with a 55-42 win for Team Tyler. The game was close throughout as Isaiah Columber hit a three to open scoring before Nikos Giakoumas answered for Team Tyler. Jack Lawrence made it 5-3 Team Tyler with a score but Columber answered back to give the lead back to Team Curtis with a three. Bryer Korosec nailed a three for Team Tyler and Giakoumas follwed with a three to open up a 5 point lead at 11-6 with 130 to go in the quarter. Luke McDonald of Mount Vernon hit a bucket before a Logan Whitney three for Team Tyler pushed the lead to 14-8 at the end of one.
Team Curtis quickly cut into the lead in the second with a Brayden Anderson score but Bradyn Clevenger hit a three for Team Tyler to increase the lead to 17-10. Corbin Poff nailed a three for Team Curtis. Parker Kimball nailed a three to get the game within one. Thomas Schaller hit back to back shots for Team Tyler before Columber and Trevin Harris ended the half with scores for Team Curtis to trail 21-20 at the half.
Harris gave the lead back to Team Curtis before that lead was extended by Columber with a score. Bryer Korosec then got hot. The East Knox Senior got a score and then a three to give Team Tyler a lead 26-24. Harris scored before Columber had 4 straight to give Team Curtis a 30-26 lead with 414 left. Giakoumas nailed a three before Korosec hit a two and another three to give Team Tyler a 34-30 lead with 217 left in the third. Columber got a two before another Korosec three made it 37-32 with 138 left in the third. Anderson and Clevenger traded buckets and Team Tyler led 39-34 at the end of three.
In the fourth Logan Whitney got a score before back to back Giakoumas threes push Team Tyler’s lead to 47-34 going into the Elam Ending. The Target score was set for 55. Harris and Columber each scored to get within 9 for Team Curtis but Korosec got a two and Giakoumas nailed a three before Anderson and Harris closed the gap to 10 at 52-42. Thomas Schaller of Centerburg hit the game winner on a three for Team Tyler.
Korosec was named the game’s MVP as he had 18 points. He hit 4 3’s in the win. Giakoumas also had 18 points on 6 made 3’s. Columber also had 18 points for Team Curtis.
