Kenyon to host annual Girls and Women in Sports Day

GAMBIER, Ohio — The Kenyon College Athletics Department will resume hosting free sports clinics on Sunday, February 11, in observance of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The clinics are open to girls currently in kindergarten through eighth grade who seek to hone their skills or learn a new sport.

Girls will have the opportunity to participate in any of eight featured sports, including basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Members of nine of the Owls women’s teams will assist in facilitating the event, including representatives from the eight sports hosting clinics and members from the swimming and diving squad.

Check-in and welcome will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. in Kenyon’s Lowry Center lobby. Following that, clinics will open at 1 p.m. and last until 3 p.m. Additionally, a reception will follow the clinics from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Girls can enjoy some snacks, hang out with Kenyon coaches and athletes, and learn about the history of women’s sports and Title IX.

This marks the 17th year Kenyon celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day, honoring female athletes of all ages and encouraging all to participate in athletics and fitness activities. More than 1,000 different events will be taking place across the state and the country.

Congress first proclaimed a National Girls and Women in Sports Day in 1987 as a way to honor the achievements and encourage the participation of girls and women in sports.

To register, go to https://kenyoncollegeevents.totalcamps.com/shop/EVENT and fill out the form by Friday, February 9.
