Kenyon ‘B’ team claims seventh place at Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio — With half the Kenyon College golf team playing in the Transylvania Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, the other half of the team competed in the two-day Ted Barclay Invitational at Denison Golf Club.

The Owls ‘B’ team registered a score of 306 on Saturday and returned Sunday to post a 313 for a two-round total of 619 in the field of nine teams. Wittenberg University ran away with the title, logging a final team total of 567. Host Denison placed second with a 588 and Otterbein University was third with a 596.

The Kenyon squad was led by senior Griffin Ward. He carded a 73 on Saturday and a 79 Sunday. His overall total of 152 was good for a tie for 19th place among the field of 56 golfers.

One stroke back, first-year Oliver McGovern put up a two-round total of 153 and tied for 22nd place. Fellow first-year, Robbie Lifson tallied a 155 and tied for 33rd place.

Rounding out the Kenyon results at the Invitational were first-year Rafael Frias IV and junior Graham Nash. They added two-round totals of 159 and 162, respectively.

The Kenyon team will now come back together, practice for a couple of weeks and return to competition on September 18 and 19 in the Gate City Invitational, hosted by Greensboro College.
