The Johnstown Johnnies came into the Hive Tuesday Night and despite foul trouble left with a 53-25 Licking County League victory.
Emma Hall got the scoring started with a two 52 seconds into the game to give Mount Vernon a quick lead but Lauren Baughman got an and one followed by another make to push the lead to 3. Maddy Jones tied the game with a triple but Baughman scored again before Sophomore Caylin Cox got going for the Johnnies. She scored to make it 9-5 at the 440 mark and then got a shot to go and was fouled but couldn’t convert on the free throws at the 350 mark but 40 seconds later she scored and did finish off the three point play and Johnstown held a 14-5 lead. Isla Graham hit a free throw to cut into the lead and Jones scored again but a triple by Payton Schneider and another score by Baughman pushed the lead to 19-8 after one.
Cox struggled with foul trouble in the second quarter and didn’t play much and Mount Vernon had a chance to cut into the lead in the second with 616 left but Jones missed both free throws and Johnstown went on a 9-0 run on a Baughman 2, Bailey Neff three, Caylin Cox bucket and two Baughman free throws. The Jackets lone point of the period came on a free throw by Graham at the 204 mark and Johnstown got a Sadie Sahr score and a score at the buzzer by Amelia Bonito to take a 32-9 lead at the half.
In the third Neff pushed the lead to 26 before a Jones free throw by the Jackets got them to a 35-10 score. Caylin Cox hit a pair of free throws before Graham got a bucket to get to answer Cox at the 240 mark of the third for the Jackets first field goal since the 132 mark of the opening period. Baughman got her first score of the second half before Cora Rickett hit a free throw for Mount Vernon. Jones would then score to make it 39-15 after three.
Cylah Cox got the scoring underway in the fourth with a free throw and Graham also hit 1/2 at the line to make it 40-16 Johnnies with 706 left. Caylin Cox hit a shot before Kate Marhefka got her first points of the game for Mount Vernon on a three to make it 42-19 with 533 left. Caylin Cox got an and one before Graham got a free throw and score to make it 45-22 with 421 left. Cylah Cox scored before Graham hit another triple and Baughman got her first points of the fourth quarter. The Jackets would go on to lose 53-25.
Graham led Mount Vernon with 11 while Maddy Jones scored 8 points.
Caylin Cox had 12 unofficially for the Johnnies
