CLEVELAND – After leading the Kenyon College men’s golf team in a stacked field at the Tiger Invitational early last week, junior Will Hulsey earned the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Athlete of the Week honor, the second of his career.
The two-round invitational was held at Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina, and Hulsey led the Owls to a T-8 finish among several teams in the national rankings, cracking the top ten for the second time in as many tournaments.
He led off the tournament with six straight pars, then carded his first birdie of the day at the par-four seventh to shoot one-under on the front nine (35). Hulsey was steady at even par on the back with one birdie and one bogey to shoot 71 (-1) on the day.
He backed up his performance with a strong round two as well, firing a 35 (-1) in his first nine holes and closing with a 39 (+3) to finish at 74 (+2) for the day and one-over par for the tournament, slotting him tied for 17th on the individual leaderboard. For the week, he ranked first in par-three scoring (2.75) and fourth in pars (27).
The conference award marks the second of the spring season for Kenyon, which currently ranks No. 19 in the NCAA Division III leaderboard. The Owls are back on the course on Friday, March 21 in Jekyll Island, Georgia for the two-round Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational at the Pine Lakes Course.
