WEEK 6 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS
3-2 Fredericktown host 5-0 Northmor (WMVO Facebook Page and 100.9FM and WMVO.com)
Both teams come in unbeaten in the KMAC, the Freddies coming off a win at home over Mount Gilead 14-12 and Northmor knocking off Danville 41-6.
The Freddies used the arm of Blake Sipes in the win against the Indians as he threw for 267 yards and 2 touchdowns one to Dalton Lang and one to Brode Davis. The Freddies averaged less than 3 yards a carry in the win. Northmor was led by the KMAC’s leading passing AJ Bower in the win over Danville. Bower threw for 321 yards and five touchdowns. Cowin Becker had 5 catches for 120 yards and a touchdown and ran for 65 yards. Jaxon Wenger was back and hauled in a 7 yard touchdown pass and a 66 yard touchdown.
3-2 Danville host 0-5 Loudonville
In what will be a homecoming for legendary former Danville Head Coach Ed Honabarger, the Redbirds look to pick up their first win of the season at Danville. The Blue Devils are coming off the loss to Northmor where they were held in check on offense tallying just 87 yards through the air and 86 yards on the ground. Danville’s Aiden Burke is fifth in the conference in rushing at nearly 97 yards per game. Meanwhile Josiah Hershberger is one of the top threats in the KMAC as he leads the conference in receptions with 27 and hauled in a pair of touchdowns.
3-2 Centerburg host 2-3 Cardington Lincoln
Centerburg is 1-1 in KMAC play and coming off a 42-7 win at Loudonville. Blane Ball totaled three touchdowns in the win. He is second in the conference in touchdown passes at 10 and second in passing yards at 701. Miles Marshall has run for 6 touchdowns including 3 last week and averages over 7 yards a carry for the Trojans.
The Trojans will have to control one of the conference’s top rushers Friday Night as Wyatt Denney has been excellent for the Pirates. Denny has run for 8 touchdowns which is tied for the most in the KMAC and he averages 9.8 yards per carry, the most in the KMAC. Denney is also 4th in the conference in tackles with over 61.
3-2 East Knox host 2-3 Mount Gilead (WMVO Facebook Page)
Another week and another rushing record falls, this time Blake Elliott broke his own rushing record when he scampered for 304 yards and 5 touchdowns in the Bulldogs 49-20 win over Cardington Lincoln.
The Bulldogs are 2-0 in the KMAC and Mount Gilead is 0-2 in the conference.
Elliott is the top rusher in the conference at 899 total rushing yards and 8 rushing touchdowns averaging 180 yards per game on the ground. Jax Lester has thrown for 604 yards and 3 touchdowns. His 604 yards are good for 3rd in the KMAC. Elliott is also 2nd in the conference in tackles with 71.
The Indians lost a slugfest with Fredericktown last Friday. They are led on the ground by Cam Vickers who averages over 111 yards on the ground per game. Vickers is 10th in the KMAC in tackles on defense.
1-4 Mount Vernon at 0-5 Zanesville
The Jackets picked up their first win with a 31-16 home win over Heath. Zanesville lost 7-0 to Northridge. They have been shut out 4 of their 5 games this season. Mount Vernon’s Mavrik Gregory ran for 86 yards in the win over Heath to go along with a touchdown on the ground.
This is the first meeting between the two schools since 2019, a 38-30 win for the Blue Devils.
