Freddies down Trojans in Conference Play in Boys High School Hoops

A quick start helped the Fredericktown Freddies boys basketball team knock of Centerburg in KMAC action Wednesday Night 68-60. The Freddies, who are now 6-5 and 4-2 in KMAC play. Isiah Sule started it for Centerburg with a bucket but Carson Rinehart hit a three for the Freddies to make it 3-2 with 6 minutes to go in the opening period. Grayson Reynolds (21 points to lead all scorers) got a to to give the Trojans the lead back before the Freddies made a run. Gavin Toombs got a three point play followed by a a Rinehart 2 and a Brode Davis put back to give the Freddies a 12-4 lead. The Trojans got a Bennett Hill score to close the gap but the Freddies finished the quarter on an 8-2 run on baskets by Rinehart, Sipes and Toombs and two free throws from Trevor Bellman. Freddies led 20-8 after one.

The second period started with the Trojans getting a three from Hill but the Freddies answered with a three from Rinehart to give the Freddies a 23-11 lead with 712 to go in the quarter. Sipes got four of the next five overall scores with Reynolds hitting a three in between as the Freddies led 31-14 with 457 to go in the half. Davis added to the lead with a score and Bellman made it 35-14 with 415 to go in the half. Sule then got hot getting a two but after the lead soared to 19 for the Freddies Sule scored the final 7 points of the half to make it 37-25 Freddies at the break.

Hill hit a three for Centerburg to start the third quarter just as he did in the second. Toombs got a put back and Rinehart drilled a three to up the lead to 42-28 with 627 left in the third. Toombs made it a 16 point Freddies led with a score before Reynolds scored for the Trojans. Sipes then made a two and Davis knocked down a three to give the Freddies a 20 point advantage. The Trojans then rattled off 8 straight points after trailing by 21 aided by threes from Hill and Blane Ball. It was 52-29 Freddies after three.

Davis got a score for the Freddies to go up 15 to start the fourth quarter but Reynolds got a free throw and two buckets to help the Trojans get within 12 with 6 minutes left. Toombs scored for the Freddies before Hill hit a three and was quickly answered by a bucket by Sipes. Reynolds and Jackson Ballinger scored back to back buckets for Centerburg to get within 9 with 418 left. Out of Freddies timout Davis traded buckets with Hill before a Reynolds three made it a 6 point Freddies lead with 207 left. Sipes and Toombs scored back to back buckets to up the lead to 9 with just under a minute to go and held on to win 68-60.

Centerburg falls to 6-5 and picked up their second conference loss. Reynolds led all scorers with 21 points while Hill had 16 for Centerburg and Sule scored 11 points all in the first half.

Sipes scored 20 points to lead the Freddies and Toombs scored 18 for the Freddies who also got 11 points from Davis.
