MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s lacrosse team (9-3) played a home game at CH4 Stadium against Michigan-Dearborn University (4-3) from the WHAC conference on Wednesday, March 26.
MVNU struck first at the 14:54 mark with a goal from Ryan LaAsmar, assisted by Zechariah Gee, to take an early lead. Less than a minute later, Colton McKee found the net unassisted at 14:25 to double the advantage. The offensive pressure continued as Kaden Tinner extended the lead to three with an unassisted goal at 13:16. Just 28 seconds later, McKee struck again at 12:48, pushing the margin to four.
The scoring run persisted with an unassisted goal from LaAsmar at 12:09, making it a five-goal lead. Angelo Elia added to the tally at 9:57, finishing a pass from McKee for a six-goal advantage. Michigan-Dearborn responded at 9:27, cutting into the deficit with their first goal of the game. However, MVNU capped off the scoring at 4:04 with another goal from Elia, securing a dominant first quarter as the score was 7-1.
The Wolverines responded in the second quarter, scoring two goals, but MVNU matched their efforts with two goals of their own, maintaining a 9-3 lead as the half came to a close.
Coming out of the break, Michigan-Dearborn showed more fight, adding four goals in the third quarter. Despite their efforts, the Cougars held onto a narrow 10-7 lead going into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, MVNU’s defense tightened up, limiting the Wolverines to just two goals. Vaughan Hawkins was instrumental in goal, earning his ninth win of the season with six saves on the night. The Cougars sealed the victory with a final score of 12-9.
