East Knox Bulldogs win school’s First District Title in Boys Basketball

A tight game turned near rout as the East Knox Bulldogs knocked off Grove City Christian Saturday 51-36 in a Division Four District Final from Capital University. Caleb Ransom got the scoring started for the Eagles with a bucket at the 6:43 mark, after a pair of Shane Knepp free throw misses the Division Four Player of the Year Knepp got a three to got coupled with an Ethan Rine lay in to give East Knox a three point lead. Seth Vaughn and Jadunn Harris scored five straight for the Eagles before a Dillon Moreland three gave the Bulldogs the lead back at the 3:04 mark at 8-7. Vaughn buried a couple free throws and a basket before Peyton Lester drilled a three for the Bulldogs to tie the score at 11-11 going to the second period.

Sam Whitney scored the first bucket of the second quarter but a Braydon Taylor score and two Ransom free throws gave Grove City Christian the lead 15-13 with 5:34 to go in the second. Whitney and Knepp hit back to back buckets and Ransom got a two as the score was tied at 17 at the break.

In the third quarter it was all Knepp for East Knox and Vaughn and Ransom for Grove City Christian.

Vaughn hit a three Knepp answered with 7 straight points including a three to give the Bulldogs a 24-20 lead with 603 to play in the third. Vaughn got five straight before Knepp drilled another three at the 1:39 mark to give the Bulldgos a 27-25 lead. After a Knepp free throw Ransom scored but Knepp got his 12th and 13th points of the quarter to give the Bulldogs a 30-27 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

Moreland drilled a three and got a two to go to start the fourth and extend East Knox lead to 35-37. Harris scored for the Eagles but Knepp got a three and an and one to extend the lead further for the Bulldogs at 41-30 with 4:07 to go. Moreland hit back to back buckets before Ransom scored twice and it was 45-34 East Knox with 1:26 to play. Moreland and Knepp then combined to go 6/6 from the line in the final Minute and a half to seal a 51-36 victory and the school’s first District Title.

Knepp led all scorers with 26 points, 21 in the second half. Moreland finished with 14. Vaughn had 15 to lead the Eagles and Ransom poured in 12 points.

Tuesday Night East Knox plays New Madison Tri Village in a Regional Semifinal from Kettering Fairmont at 5:30pm on 100.9FM and WMVO.com.
