Cougars Sweep Rio Grande

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s volleyball team (4-1, 3-1 WHAC) stayed hot to start the 2023 season with a sweep against the University of Rio Grande (2-5) on Tuesday, February 7 in Ariel Arena.

MVNU asserted its dominance early, taking the first set 25-16. The momentum from the first set of the match carried over to the last two as the Cougars went on to win by scores of 25-23 and 25-15 to secure the match victory.

Inside the Box Score

Spencer Stanley had 10 kills, four digs and a pair of blocks for MVNU.

Jaysen Matsumoto had 13 assists in two sets of work. Mikaja Dart got some work in for the Cougars in the second set and finished the night with 10 assists.

The freshman duo of Hayvin Larison and Noah Wineberg were stout up front for MVNU. Larison had four blocks and Wineberg finished with three. Larison and Wineberg had three and two kills, respectively.

Daniel Skrzypchak led MVNU with six digs. Jordan Hoag finished the match with five of his own.

What’s Next

MVNU travels to Southfield, Michigan for a pair of matches at Lawrence Tech on February 10-11. Friday’s match takes place at 7:00pm, and the action on Saturday starts at 11:00am.
