Cougars Set Program Record in Win Over Cleary

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s lacrosse team (4-0, 0-0) defeated Cleary University (0-3, 0-0) by a final score of 24-1 on Wednesday, March 2.

The Cougars did not lack offensive opportunities against Cleary. MVNU dominated Cleary from the start and did not look back. MVNU scored seven goals in each of the first two quarters. Cleary got on the board in the first 34 seconds of the second half, but MVNU responded with six more goals in the third and four goals in the final quarter to win in dominant fashion. The 24 goals scored is the most goals scored in a game in program history. MVNU outshot Cleary 64-7 and forced 30 turnovers defensively.

Inside the Box Score

Jason LaAsmar opened up the game with a score and finished with three goals.

Ian Ranck has had a very impressive week thus far after scoring five goals last game and six goals in this one. Ranck also picked up two assists in the win.

Johnny Grumney was very active offensively, scoring three goals and tying a game-high with five assists.

Brett Townsend scored a goal and tied Grumney with five assists against Cleary.

Tyler Dickerson, Ryan LaAsmar, Kaden Tinner, and Gabe Wolf each scored two goals for the Cougars.

Joshua Hageman finished with three saves on the night and Bryson McVay finished with one save in six minutes of play.

The Cougars finish their home-stretch on Saturday, March 5 at 1:00pm against the Taylor Trojans.
