Cougars Beat Rio Grande in Five Sets

RIO GRANDE, Ohio. – The (RV) Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s volleyball team (17-6, 11-5) defeated Rio Grande University (7-17, 2-6) in five sets on Tuesday evening, March 21.

The Cougars won the first two sets by scores of 27-25 and 25-19. However, the Red Storm won the next two sets with scores of 25-22 and 25-21. MVNU pulled it out in the fifth set with a 15-10 victory to seal the win.

Inside the Box Score

Spencer Stanley led the Cougars with 13 kills and 11 digs.

Jonathan Champlin had 11 kills and eight digs.

Riley Barretto added 10 kills and five digs.

Luke Funte had six kills and was involved in nine blocks.

Jaysen Matsumoto had 34 assists and 14 digs.

What’s Next

The Cougars will travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan on Friday, March 24 to face off with Cornerstone University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00pm.
