CLEVELAND, Ohio — The North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) unveiled the results of the balloting of league coaches who voted for the annual all-conference awards, and two Kenyon College Owls claimed spots on the 2024 All-NCAC Women’s Soccer Team. The Owls’ duo included Emily Copeland, who was voted the NCAC Newcomer of the Year following a strong first-year campaign, and Brooke Heis, a junior.
Along with her special recognition, Copeland also gained a spot on the All-NCAC second team, while Heis, a defender, took a spot on the third team. The all-conference honors was a first for both Kenyon players.
The NCAC Newcomer of the Year honor, which is issued to the league’s top player in their first year of collegiate competition, marked the first time that a Kenyon women’s soccer player was tabbed as the award’s winner. Copeland is also Kenyon’s first first-year to secure All-NCAC honors since 2021 and the first to make it onto the second team or higher since 2017.
This past season, Copeland started all 14 of the Owls games and led the team in nearly every offensive category. She racked up eight points after scoring four goals, one of which was a game winner. The forward fired off 36 shots and put 12 on target, and her 2.57 shots per game ranks fourth amongst NCAC competitors.
Kenyon’s All-NCAC selections led the team in minutes, with Heis tallying 1,228 and Copeland accumulating 1,214. Heis followed up a breakout sophomore campaign with a strong junior season, starting all of Kenyon’s games for the second straight season and playing all but 32 of the Owls’ total minutes. This year, in addition to her strong defensive play, Heis added her first career assist, tying for the team lead in helpers.
