Centerburg bounces back to beat Highland on the road Saturday

Despite a disappointing loss to Fredericktown Wednesday, the Centerburg Girl’s Basketball team bounced back with a 57-34 win at Highland Saturday. Evie Stowe got the scoring started for the now 17-3 Lady Trojans with a three. A Kayla Larimore free throw made it 4-0. Addie Mullins got the Scots, (5-15) on the board with a pair of free throws and after a Kenlee Fairall free throw Mullins got a bucket to make it 5-4 Centerburg with 440 left in the opening quarter. Taylor Bryant hit a three for the Lady Trojans and Tiara Sheppard added a bucket to make it 10-4 with 235 left in the quarter. Bri Sines went 1/2 at the line for the Scots and Stowe scored with just over a minute to go in the quarter to go up 12-5 after one.

The Lady Trojans only outscored Highland by 2 in the second quarter. Bryleigh Young got a score but Kenlee Fairall got hot with a score, a three and another made bucket to make it 19-7 with 542 to go in the half. Larimore hit one of two free throws to go up 20-7. Aubree Bellamy got her first points Highland with 2 of 3 free throws after being fouled shooting a three. Larimore answered for Centerburg and Mullins drilled a free throw and added a put back to make it 22-12 Centerburg with 234 left in the half. Sheppard made a free throw before Ava Williams got a shot to go for the Scots to trail 23-14. Kenlee Fairall got a steal and score to go up 11 but Kate Clements hit two free throws for Highland at the end of the half. Centerburg led 25-16 at half.

Bellamy hit a pair of free throws to open up scoring a minute and 18 seconds into the third quarter. Larimore hit a free throw and then got a score to go up 10. Taylor Bryant hit her second three of the game to extend Centerburg’s lead and Sierra Fitzpatrick got her first points for the Scots to make it 31-20 Centerburg with 3 minutes to go in the period. Kenlee Fairall nailed a three before Sines hit a bucket and Fitzpatrick made one of two at the line to make it 34-23 with 149 to go in the period. Larimore made 2/2 free throws and Lauren Ellis got her first points of the game on a triple at the one minute mark. Centerburg led 39-23 at the end of three.

Fitzpatrick opened the period with a bucket. Ellis answered with a three and Fitzpatrick hit a three of her own as Centerburg led 42-28 with 715 to go. Ellis got a score before a Fairall free throw. Larimore then scored 5 straight as part of a 10-0 Centerburg run. Young and Freshman Addi Reichenbach had back to back scores to end the run and make it 52-32. Larimore got a free throw and Cara Ross scored a bucket for Centerburg before one free throw each by Larimore and Sheppard. made it 57-32. Ellie Rhea finished the scoring for the Scots. Centerburg won 57-34

Kenlee Fairall had 16 for Centerburg. Ellis added 8. Larimore also had 16 while Bryant added 6 for Centerburg.

Fitzpatrick had 8 for Highland.

Centerburg received the number 2 seed in the Division Six tournament draw and will host Mount Gilead to open up tournament play on February 13th. Centerburg beat the Indians twice in the regular season allowing just 25 total in the two games. The winner plays 8 seed East Knox February 18th. Centerburg could meet top seed Newark Catholic in the District Final.
