Centerburg and Mount Gilead clash in key KMAC Matchup

Friday’s night Knox Morrow Athletic Conference clash between host Mount Gilead and visiting Centerburg could see a lot of running and a lot of fireworks. The Trojans are 5-1, winners of 5 straight following an opening week loss to Utica. The Trojans last 4 games of the season are their toughest with a road game at Danville next week and home matchups with Northmor and Fredericktown also lurking. The Trojans are led by Senior quarterback Tyler Johnson and Senior Caylen LeMaster on offense. The pair has combined for nearly 1700 rush yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground while Johnson is also a major threat through the air as well.

Last week the Trojans defeated Cardington Lincoln 47-14 in a homecoming victory. Centerburg racked up 555 yards of offense as Tyler Johnson threw for 179 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 200 yards and a pair of scores including a 77 yard scamper. The Trojans ground game was big as the team ran for nearly 380 yards led by LeMaster’s 199 yards on the ground and 4 rushing scores.

The Mount Gilead Indians are much improved at 4-2 and 2-1 in the KMAC. They are coming off a 22-6 win over East Knox . The team still has tough tests at Danville and Northmor but tonight they get the Trojans at home where the team is 3-0 and averaging nearly 39 points per game on offense.

They are led by a tough rushing attack led by Garrett George. George has rushed for 788 yards and 9 touchdowns on the ground this season. The team’s quarterback Matthew Bland has run for 725 yards and another 7 scores on the ground. He has also thrown for 571 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Owen High is the team’s threat on offense at receiver averaging 29 yards per catch with 349 yards receiving and 4 touchdowns while on defense Judah Reid has a staggering 7.5 sacks this season.

Centerburg is currently 7th in Division 5 Region 19 in the Computer Ratings while Mount Gilead in Division 6 Region 23 is currently sitting 6th.
