Carpenter’s 24 lead Freddies in Tournament Win

The Fredericktown Lady Freddies won the KMAC Title and came into Tuesday’s tournament opener with 17 wins and they added to that with a 57-29 win over Columbus Academy.

Things started alittle slow before Fredericktown’s all time leading scorer Cally Carpenter got a three to got a minute and 23 seconds into the game. Carpenter got a pair of free throws before Ella Bouton, who dominated on the glass, nailed a three to got up 8-0. Kennedy Algire added to the lead with a bucket and the Lady Freddies led 10-0 with 323 to go in the opening period. Morgan Spalding finally got the Columbus Academy Vikings (8-12) on the board with a score and Mya Bryant scored with a minute and 34 seconds to go in the quarter to go up 12-2.

In the second quarter Bryant added a score before Carpenter scored 4 straight for the Freddies to up 18-2. Ella Bouton got a put back to go up 20-2. Kendall Owens hit 1/2 free throws before a Gracyn Toombs and one upped the lead to 23-3 with 202 left in the quarter. Spalding got another bucket before a pair of missed Freddies’ free throws and with just under 12 seconds left in the half Lianna Lopez of the Vikings hit a pair of free throws to make it 23-7 at the half.

The second half was much better for the Vikings but they had dug quite the hole. Spalding opened the quarter with a free throw and Kyndal Singleton added two points to get within 13 at 23-10. Mya Bryant got a put back and Kit Bellman got her first points of the game for the Freddies to go up 27-10 with 617 left in the quarter. After the Freddies and Vikings each missed a pair of free throws after a Carpenter score Lopez got a score and she and Carpenter each traded two free throws to make it 31-14 Freddies with 3 minutes left in the period. Carpenter scored again but Lopez hit a free throw. Carpenter upped the lead to 20 with two at the line 35-15 with 126 left in the third. Owens scored before a baseline jumper by Vika Arnett made it a 20 point lead again. Sydney Al-Lateef hit a free throw before Carpenter made a pair at the line to make it 39-18 after three.

Algire started the scoring in the fourth before Singleton got back to back buckets for the Vikings. Arnett hit a three for the Freddies to go up 44-22 with 531 left. Algire scored again and Carpenter hit two free throws before Lopez answered for the Vikings. Toombs got back to back buckets to go up 26. Singleton scored before Carpenter hit a three. Liz Swartzentruber scored before a free throw by Columbus Academy capped the scoring.

Carpenter led the way with 24. Algire and Bryant each added 6 for the Freddies. Bouton had 5.
