Blue Devils and Trojans ready for Battle for top spot in the KMAC Friday Night

A clash of the Titans will meet on Friday Night on Tough Street in Danville as 6-1 Danville, winners of 4 straight with just a loss to North Union on their roster host 6-1 Centerburg, a team that has rattled off 6 straight wins following an opening season loss to Utica.

The Trojans come in averaging 32 points per game on offense led by a two headed monster in Tyler Johnson and Caylan LeMaster. Johnson has rushed for just under 1,100 yards and has 10 rushing scores while averaging nearly 7 yards a carry and over 155 yards rushing a game. His teammate Caylan LeMaster has run for 850 yards and 8 scores while averaging just a tick under 8 yards per carry. The Trojans aren’t one dimensional either as Jesse Rings and Mason Turske are among the threats on the outside while the offense line is led by John Geiger. On defense Tanner Hott has been the team’s leading tackler with over 46 on the season and 6.5 tackles for loss. While Johnson protects the back end as he leads the team in pass breakups and Rings has 3 picks to lead the Trojans who allow 17 points per game on defense.

The Blue Devils won’t be giving up Tough Street easy as the Blue Devils have two headed monster of their own in Max Payne and Walker Weckesser. Payne has run for 683 yards and 10 touchdowns this year while Weckesser has run for 272 yards and 6 scores. Weckesser has thrown for 671 yards with 5 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. On the outside athletic receiver Kaiden Colopy leads the charge with 223 yards and 2 touchdowns, he also is one of the top in the conference in interceptions with 5 on defense.

Levi Lyons, Ryan Lucas, Max Payne and Colopy are the top four tacklers on a stout defense that allows just 12 points per game. Lucas leads the team with 6 sacks this year. While a underrated part of the team’s game is Payne’s ability to flip the field averaging over 45 yards per punt this season.

The Blue Devils fell to Centerburg 26-19 last year as Jack Gregory threw for 345 yards and 3 touchdowns. Danville hasn’t defeated Centerburg since 2018.

Both coaches mentioned their team’s expect a physical battle and Coach Blum from Danville said his team has talked about setting the standard. Coach Colella from Centerburg said his team needs to match Danville’s physical play and play a four quarter game.

Remaining for Centerburg after tonight are home match ups with Northmor and Fredericktown
